Dali´s World

The work of Salvador Dali can be found in the world’s greatest museums from the Metropolitan in New York to the Vatican. However if you really want to get to know the universe of the great painter in depth then you have to travel to Catalonia. In the north eastern region known as the Ampurdà, you can visit two sites of great importance in the life of the artist who was born in the area and spent much of his life here – the Dali Theatre-Museum and the Gala Dali Castle. The first, designed by the artist himself, is itself a great surrealistic work of art and contains a wide variety of works describing Dalí’s artistic trajectory from his first surrealist works up to his later creations. The Dali Theatre-Museum occupies the building of the old Municipal Theatre, destroyed at the end of the Spanish Civil War. Dali decided to build a museum from the ruins. The nearby Gala Dali castle at Púbil is a mediaeval building set around a high narrow patio surrounded by elegant French-influenced gardens where Dali materialised almost superhuman creative efforts inspired by one person, his wife and muse, Gala.
