NICK THOMPSON 4th – 18th March, 2018

Nick started racing aged 5 quickly progressed to become the first Brit to win the European Championships in an Optimist in 1999. Later a Gold medal in the Laser at the Youth Worlds in 2004 kick started his Olympic campaign after graduating from Exeter University. Since campaigning full time in the Laser Nick has calmed 6 World Championship medals, winning back to back titles in 2015 & 2016, along with the European title in 2017.

Nick represented Great Britain at the Rio 2016 Olympic games and is looking to claim the one title that has eluded him thus far in Tokyo 2020. Along side his Olympic sailing he has raced as tactician on many different sailing boats from foiling GC32’s to TP52’s so has good experience of what it takes to get a boat around a race course quickly.

SASKIA CLARK 18th March – 1st April, 2018

Initially Saskia took a dislike to sailing as a child, but quickly changed her mind when she beat her elder sister once in a race. From there she progressed through the junior and youth programs, with her under 18 career culminating in the European Youth title.

After some time away from the sport to complete university, Saskia returned to sailing and struggled to make the transition to the senior circuit so decided to pursue a career away from the water. Whilst watching friends and former competitors compete in Athens 2004 she resolved to pursue her Olympic dream and returned to the circuit with a new found professionalism and desire to win.

Her first Olympic experience in Beijing 2008 ended in an 6th place finish but importantly showed her first hand what it would take to win at the top level. After trialling various team mates though the 2012 cycle, Saskia and Hannah Mills crossed paths late in the cycle and would be the team to end up making history. The first British women to win a 470 World title followed by the Olympic Silver medal in London 2012.

The battle for Gold had been too close and left the pair with unfinished business, determined to go one better. A tricky 4 years followed, a struggle with various illness and injury, but Saskia and Hannah turned up to Rio 2016 with one loss in the 9 months prior to the Games. They won the Gold Medal in emphatic fashion, with a race to spare. 2016 ended with the pair voted as Rolex World Sailor of the Year.

WellFit Guest Athlete

DONNA FRASER 1st - 15th April 2018

Former top athlete and four time Olympian, Donna now focuses on motivational and inspirational presentations to companies, schools, colleges and universities. An exceptional athlete at Junior level, she won six English Schools 200m titles (as well as a silver medal for the 4x100m relay at the 1990 World Junior Championships) before turning to the 400m in 1991 and becoming European Junior Champion that year.

She also gained a silver medal for the 4x100m relay. However in 1996, when she decided to leave her full time job at the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourist Office, and began to concentrate on the 400m seriously, she qualified for British teams in the major outdoor championships between 1996 and 1999. She was a finalist in the 1998 European Championships and Commonwealth Games (taking bronze in the 400m, bronze in the 4x100m relay and silver in the 4x400m relay).

However, it was at the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000 that she finally showed her potential when she clipped almost a second off her PB to finish 4th with a personal best time of 49.79 seconds. This was thanks in no small part to her training alongside Olympic Champion Cathy Freeman. But her career after 2000 stalled due to a catalogue of injuries including a torn Achilles tendon. Donna had one of her best years in 2005, where she achieved a fine 200/ m400m double at the AAA Championships, the first athlete to do so since 1945. She also helped Britain’s 4x400m relay team to bronze in the World Championships.

Despite having contemplated retiring, Donna remained in great form with a 200m/400m double at the 2009 UK Indoor Championships and she reached the European Indoor final in Turin. Donna holds the rare distinction of representing Great Britain at four successive Olympic Games (1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008).

JENNIFER BENAVIDEZ 3rd - 17th June 2018

Born in the US, her Mexican heritage has given her dancing rico sabor (good flavor). She discovered ballroom dancing in 1992 while studying at the University of Texas at Austin. Jennifer’s hips made her focus more on the latin dances and then she discovered SALSA. Her salsa dancing, performing and teaching took her on lovely travels to LA, NY, Puerto Rico, London, Chicago, Israel, Berlin, Prague, Houston, and Casablanca. Not long after graduation she was recruited to teach in Amsterdam where she coowned one of the top salsa schools in Holland for over 8 years.

Jennifer qualified with Zumba creator Beto Perez in 2009. Zumba allowed her to combine her knowledge of different dance styles into an exciting, calorie burning class. By focusing on the charity side of Zumba, she has given back to the community by organizing and teaching at several Zumbathons around the UK. She is qualified to teach Zumba, Zumba Gold, Zumba Toning and ZumbAtomic.

Jennifer’s Degree in Communications/Journalism was a great asset when she became one of the organizers of the Amsterdam International Salsa Festival. Currently, based near London, she teaches with Latin Dance Academy and is the lead choreographer for Incognito Dance Company.

Always interested in a challenge, she has won several dance competitions in Holland, Germany and Texas. Her competition experience lead to her judging numerous competitions in the UK and Europe.
