Poble Espanyol

Come to Poble Espanyol and discover the best of Spain's architectural heritage without even leaving Barcelona. You'll find a wide range of houses, squares and streets from the different regions of Spain at this fascinating open-air architectural museum. Poble Espanyol, which means ‘Spanish Village’, is much more than a miniature Spain, however. It also boasts one of the most important concentrations of craft workshops in southern Europe. Poble Espanyol was conceived as a real village in the heart of the city. The aim was to provide visitors with an ideal Spanish town with full-scale replicas of buildings from all the regions of the country. Stroll around the plazas, streets and gardens as you admire the 117 landmark buildings inspired by structures as varied as Basque farmhouses, Moorish minarets and Mallorcan palaces. There are moments when to all intents and purposes, you might as well be in a whitewashed Andalusian pueblo. But Poble Espanyol is not just a museum but a living village as the dozens of craft workshops attest. Browse the offering of traditional and contemporary pieces; you'll find everything from leather goods to embroidery and ceramics, which make ideal souvenirs. Discover different production techniques and see how the craftspeople combine innovation and tradition as you watch them at work. You'll will also find a great selection of bars and restaurants offering the best of food from all around Spain, a fascinating collection of contemporary art – including works by Picasso, Miró and Dalí among others – and a wide range of cultural and leisure activities throughout the year.
