The Mission District: Exploring the Historic Heart of San Francisco

Our tour starts, fittingly, near the “golden fire hydrant” that quelled the flames started by the 1906 earthquake. From there we’ll embark on a historic walk through this neighborhood which is generally considered the historic foundation point of the city. From the graves of Native Americans in the Mission Dolores Cemetery to the oldest residential buildings, we’ll investigate the earliest days of San Francisco and show you how Spanish-speaking culture still flourishes here in new and surprising ways. Moving into the modern part of the neighborhood, we’ll enjoy its rich culture of politically-themed street art as we see murals by famous artists. We’ll leave you in Clarion Alley, an open-air art gallery, but not before sharing our favorite spot to get a burrito, which is just a few blocks away.
