Tour of modernist Barcelona

Home to Antoni Gaudí, Barcelona is known as the capital of Modernism and boasts some of the most celebrated Modernist architecture and structures found anywhere in the world. One of the great innovators of his time, Gaudí left his mark on the map of Barcelona and visitors can explore a whole host of architectural treasures that he left behind. From the unfinished masterpiece La Sagrada Familia to the incredibly creative Parc Guell, tour Gaudí’s legacy and discover exactly why Barcelona has such a reputation to this day. Begin your excursion with a walking tour of the Sagrada Familia’s beautiful exterior. Probably Gaudí’s most iconic design, the gothic and modernist combination remains unfinished to this day. Stroll around its unique spires and facades and learn about the basilica’s rich history including how Gaudí’s untimely death caused construction to stutter. Proceed to Carmelo Hill in the Gracia district of the city to take in Parc Guell, Gaudí’s modernist and at times bizarre public park. Wander through its streets and gardens and pause as your guide stops to explain the significance of attention grabbing objects such as the multicoloured mosaic salamander. Make the short trip to Paseo de Gracia, widely regarded as Barcelona’s most expensive street to admire Gaudí’s famous designs for apartment buildings such as the futuristic Casa Batlló and the striking La Pedrera. You are sure to be amazed by the complexity and creativity involved in all of Gaudí’s works and this tour is the ideal way to appreciate the structures and their history.
