Maldives

The Maldives is situated on the equator, South West of Sri Lanka and comprises of over 1,100 islands forming 26 major atolls. 87 of these Islands are exclusive island resorts and just over 200 are inhabited.

As the Maldives are located on the equator, the average temperature rarely drops below 27o C with an average maximum of 32o C in the warmest months. Cultural and historical influences date back to 500 bc when it is believed the first inhabitants came from Ceylon in Sri Lanka. Travellers and early settlers from the days of the Silk Route have also brought influences from both East Africa and South Asia.The majority of Maldivians are Muslims and Islam is the national religion.

The Maldives offers some of the finest beaches and crystal clear waters you will find and boasts some of the best diving opportunities in the world. Due to the geographical nature of the Maldives, there is a lack of natural resources which means that almost everything has to be imported. This can mean that certain items are expensive when compared to home.

Sri Lanka

Marco Polo described Sri Lanka as “Undoubtedly the finest island of its size in the world”. Sri Lanka, the Isle of Serendipity is a tourist paradise, a tropical island of golden beaches and blue waters. Famed for the amazing diversity of its culture, the natural beauty of the landscape and a complex history dating back to 543 BC.

One can choose from a variety of activities from lazing on one of the beautiful beaches to diving in coral reefs, observing the wildlife, mountain hikes through tea estates or wandering through the ruins of ancient temples and palaces. Sri Lanka has something for everyone.

The Capital of Sri Lanka, Colombo is a metropolitan city which keeps pace with modern developments while preserving the Old World charms.

Among the many places of interest in the City are the Fort, the Old Parliament House, Temples and Mosques. It is fast becoming the shopping centre of South Asia with highly competitive duty free prices. The Southern coastal belt is the most popular and comes alive mainly from October through April when the monsoon moves north east and the sea becomes calm with blue skies as it is the perfect place to spend the winter vacation. The main beach resorts are at Beruwala, Bentota, Galle and Hikkaduwa with stunning hotels each with exclusive beachfronts.

Dubai

The United Arab Emirates were formed in 1971 when the states of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah came together to form the sovereign state. The UAE now covers 83,600 sq km’s with a population of just over 3 million.

Dubai is the main commercial centre within the Emirates and hosts some of the finest hotels anywhere in the world.

The investment in Dubai has continued to grow and the construction of Palm Island alone has added 120 km’s of beachfront to the beautiful Dubai coastline.

An upmarket winter retreat, Dubai has something to offer everybody. Wild Wadi water park, located adjacent to the Jumeirah Beach Hotel is a major attraction for adults and children alike.
